Norwich Christian to speak about Kenya visit

Ruth Ruderham2010: A former Norwich student who now leads fundraising at Christian Aid is returning to her home city to speak about her experiences overseas.

Ruth Ruderham was born in Norwich and spent her childhood in the city. At the age of 12 she moved to Hethersett, where she attended the Methodist church.

She went to Norwich High School and as a teenager was very involved in Norwich Youth for Christ. After completing her A levels she moved to Paris for a year to volunteer for the Christian charity Oasis in one of the most deprived areas of the city.

She then studied theology at Kings College London and has lived in London ever since. She trained as a Chartered Accountant but eight years ago moved into charity fundraising. Having worked for Crisis and Friends of the Earth, she took on the role of head of fundraising at Christian Aid, and is responsible for raising £60 million a year.

She was very privileged to travel to Kenya last year as part of the preparation of this year's Christian Aid Week materials. She also travelled to Haiti, prior to the devastating earthquake. Ruth's husband also works for Christian Aid, and they both attend St Luke's Anglican church in north London.

She will be speaking at Chapelfield Road Methodist Church at 7pm on Monday 22 March.

Lydia - Lake NakuruLater this spring Lydia Munyi, who grew up in Nairobi, will be sharing stories about her home country in two talks in north Norfolk.

Lydia is a final year student in International Development at the University of East Anglia. She has appeared on Kenyan television, and had an opportunity to meet the Queen at Buckingham Palace last month after the Development department at UEA won the Queen's award.

Lydia has visited the huge slum in Kibera which is the focus of this year's Christian Aid Week. She will be speaking at Aylsham Community Church at 10.30am on Sunday 18 April, and then at St Peter's parish church in Sheringham at 7.30pm on Wednesday 5 May.
