Mundesley hymn book 600CF

Mundesley man publishes new hymn book

2017: Harry Hicks, a hymn-writer from Mundesley, has just published a new edition of his hymn-book “Praise!”. Tony Rothe reports.

The book contains over 440 hymns, some by established hymn writers (such as Timothy Dudley-Smith), some by writers as yet unknown and some whose words need to be rediscovered.

All the tunes are new and are designed to reflect the sentiment of the words, and they have all been written by Harry Hicks himself to be easily sung by congregations.

Harry says “The first edition was published just over a year ago. Sales were not good, so I continued to write new tunes for words that I felt were ill-served by existing tunes. There is a great need for sing-able new tunes that can be sung by congregations, as opposed to performances by individuals or groups. I wrote all the music (except three tunes) because I believe there is a dearth of appropriate music for corporate worship.”

Mundesley hymn book hicks 300Mr Hicks, right, has also written a book of organ voluntaries; and a further book, a compilation of sermons -  preached over the last year - is in the process of production, and should be available soon.

Praise! is available from Harry Hicks at Clifftop, 30 Seaview Road, Mundesley NR11 8DH,
or from the Revelation Bookshop, St Michael-at-Plea Church, Redwell Street, Norwich  NR2 4SN.
