BBC antiques man to help Mundesley church outreach

2018: Antiques expert Mark Stacey, who has appeared in several BBC antiques programmes, will be conducting an antiques valuation day at All Saints, Mundesley on July 21 to support the parish church’s expanding outreach into the community. Tony Rothe reports.

The event is part of the Arts, Crafts and Flowers festival which runs from Friday July 20 to Tuesday July 24. The festival is open from 10am to 4pm each day, and admission is free. Refreshments will be available, with home-made cakes.

Mark Stacey BBCMark Stacey, right, is a Welsh valuer and auctioneer who owns an antiques shop in Brighton. He is also a TV personality and has made regular appearances on BBC programmes such as Bargain Hunt, Flog It!, Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is, and Antiques Road Trip.

Mundesley Parish Church has a busy program of outreach in the local community, all funded by voluntary donations, and events such as the Arts, Crafts and Flowers festival and antiques day.

The Open Door Cafe runs from 10am to 11.30am on the third Friday of each month. This is a dementia-friendly cafe with activities and support for all, and was opened by North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb back in January. Read more about this here.

The Baby and Toddler Cafe runs on the second and fourth Friday mornings each month, again with no charge; and there is a “Soup and pudding” community meal on the first Friday of the month offering all you can eat for £5. There are also “Tea time toasties” with free toast and toppings and open to everyone, supported by Tesco.

Wendy Fredericks from the church said “We had 60 yesterday at our café style church which is amazing in a church used to conventional worship. Everything we are doing in God’s name is growing and flourishing. All this in a year under our new rector Andrew Jones and his wife Eleanor. We really urge folk to come to the festival and support us, especially the Saturday with Mark Stacey. The church is growing and reaching out because we really want to show Jesus’ love in action.  It is God who's blessing us and driving us forward as a church and community.”

The Antiques Valuation day will run from 10.30am to 3.30pm on Saturday July 21. Anyone can bring their antiques or collectibles to be valued by Mark Stacey for £2 per item.
