New Norfolk Christian football league season kicks off

The Norfolk Christian Football League kicked off a new season last weekend with a healthy 36 teams spread over five youth and adult divisions with more teams still needed at Under 10s and Under 16s, reports league secretary Alan Barnes.

The adult league season started with a fun and fitness round-robin tournament at Thorpe High school with six teams participating. The tournament was very even with all teams registering a victory which bodes well for a competitive season.

The recent Managers' Meeting at Witard Road started with an exploration of the practicalities of Connecting Church to Community Through Football, which is the strapline of the league. Paul Nice of Silver Road men's team shared how the team was a result of different churches working together. All training sessions, as well as matches, begin with prayer and an invitation to share what is happening in players’ lives.

League Chairman, Jim Green, said: “This is a great example of what the league is about. We are passionate about enjoying football, but also about seeing a difference in our players' lives.”

Two of the youth age groups are short of teams to make it a competitive season.  Under 10s (school years 4 & 5) and Under 16s (school years 10 & 11) are looking for new 7-a-side teams or players who would like to make up a composite team to play regularly on Saturday mornings.

Meanwhile the Under 12s and Under 14s have strong leagues which kicked off earlier in the month.
