Online launch for East coast mission initiative

An online meeting early next month will see the launch of a local mission project for churches from across the East coast of Norfolk and Waveney, and churches from across the area are encouraged to participate.

The vision evening for the Who Cares? East Coast mission initiative which was postponed at the end of March as lockdown began has been rescheduled. The evening will now take place online via the platform Zoom at 7pm on Tuesday May 5.  It will also be possible to access the meeting via an ordinary telephone (landline or mobile) and listen in to what takes place.  Church members from across the area are being invited to join the meeting and hear more about the initiative and how their church can get involved.

Who Cares? provides a way for lots of churches to come together and share the gospel of Jesus Christ with thousands of people, beginning by asking the question “what hurts the most?”  The Who Cares? initiative began in Norfolk in 2011 and since then has been run by churches across the UK.

Adam Bradley
, lead elder of Kingsgate Community Church in Great Yarmouth and one of the core planning team for Who Cares? East Coast, said, “we were really sad to have to cancel the original vision evening, but since then many churches have found innovative ways to continue meeting together virtually.

“It seems to be the experience of many churches that they are actually reaching more people through their online offerings than previously.  We are praying that, in God’s sovereignty, that might be true for the vision evening too!”

At the vision night Rob Tervet who leads Who Cares? nationally will explain the vision behind the initiative and how it provides a framework for mission in a local area.  There will also be details of the plan for implementing Who Cares? on the East coast of Norfolk and in Waveney, as well as an opportunity to pray together for the local area.

Revd Matthew Price, vicar of St Mary Magdalene Church in Gorleston, and another member of the core planning team, said, “The question at the heart of Who Cares? seems even more relevant in this time of the COVID-19 pandemic, and so we were keen to find a way to push ahead with the Who Cares? East Coast initiative.  We hope as many as possible from churches across the area will join the Zoom meeting.”

Alongside, Adam and Matthew, the other members of the core planning team are:  Peter Timothy, minister of Park Baptist Church in Great Yarmouth and Ben Parish, lead elder of Lowestoft Community Church.
