QuiltDannatt750Lady Dannatt sees creativity in times of Covid

Lady Dannatt MBE, the Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk, and the Mayor and Sheriff of Norwich were among visitors to a recent Quilt of Kindness exhibition in Norwich.

The two hand-crafted ‘Quilts of Kindness’ created during the three Covid-19 lockdowns were on display at a special exhibition at Christ Church, Eaton.

The event was attended by the Lady Dannatt, as well as the Lord Mayor, Councillor Dr Kevin Maguire, and the Sheriff of Norwich, Caroline Jarrold.  It was also visited by many members of the public.

The squares were made by residents of Eaton and those living further afield. They were sewn together into quilts by four of the skilled people who were part of the 45 square makers. Cards showing individual squares, specially created for the event, were available for sale, and refreshments were offered in the cafe area. Vivien Humber, co-ordinator of the Quiltmakers team, said: "We were delighted by the interest and enthusiasm of everyone who took part and by the number of people who attended the Exhibition.  The making of the Quilts was always intended to be a project of fellowship offered during a time of isolation as well as a mindful occupation for those of us confined to our own homes for months on end, stilling the mind whilst busying the hands – stitching and knitting can be meditative, and these activities have long been seen as therapeutic."
