SuziHeybourne750Magdalene Group leader to speak at Justice Forum

Suzi Heybourne, CEO of The Magdalene Group, will be the next speaker at the Norfolk Justice Forum, taking place in Norwich in July.

The Magdalene Group which has been working in the field of sexual violence, exploitation and coercion for over 25 years, providing support to some of the most marginalised women and young people in society.

She will speak about how women experience homelessness differently from men and why a trauma and gendered approach is required. Suzi will be sharing experiences of supporting women into new accommodation opportunities through the Next Steps Accommodation Programmes and early findings.

The meeting has been rescheduled and will now be held at Priors Hall next to Norwich Cathedral on July 18 from 5.30- 7pm.

The Ecumenical Criminal Justice Forum (now renamed the Norfolk Justice Forum) began in May 2006 under the Chairmanship of Paddy Seligman OBE. It gathered a diverse group of those working in and with the justice system including courts, prisons, police, probation and voluntary agencies to engage with criminal justice issues.

Meeting quarterly, the group has invited a wide range of speakers who have given insight to members across many issues connected with the Judiciary. In recent times this has reached beyond criminal justice and has included restorative justice, prison resources, sentencing, IPP sentences, Community Chaplaincy and rehabilitation projects.

The Forum members have been keen to look for opportunities for action. A speaker from the Road Policing Team recently gave an excellent overview of their work and pointed out that support was given to victims of road deaths but was not available, from the police, for those involved who might face court proceedings. A member offered chaplaincy support via the police, and this continues.

The newly named Norfolk Justice Forum is now chaired by Mrs Georgina Holloway, a former High Sheriff, at Priors Hall in the Cathedral Close.
